Corporate Director: Social Services & Wellbeing
£105,477 to £110,449
You’ll provide strategic direction and professional leadership across Adult Social Care, Children’s Social Care and Prevention & Wellbeing, fulfilling the statutory role of Director of Social Services. Leading a directorate workforce of just over 1,100 people you’ll be responsible for an overall budget of £70.8m.
You’ll inherit a strong and stable service with highly committed staff. There’s an openness to new ideas within the teams, and that has helped the Council to build a reputation as a centre of good practice. The emphasis for this role will be building on those foundations, while recognising that continuing budget and demographic pressures demand that we never stand still. You’ll have a key role to play in pursuing our integration with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, as well as working in ever closer collaboration with third sector and community partners to develop sustainable community-based care and wellbeing solutions.
The wellbeing agenda is central to this role, and you’ll help to embed this in all that we do, working to promote awareness among the community and with key stakeholders on how positive, early intervention can deliver real benefits to people’s health and lifestyles.
Other priorities include working to safely reduce overall numbers of Looked After Children in the county borough. You’ll help to create the right infrastructure of accountability that keeps our young people and vulnerable adults safe and offers them and their carers the support they need.
It’s a role that demands highly developed professional and personal leadership capabilities. You should bring a well-informed appreciation of the complex pressures of budget pressures, growing demand and service complexity. The ability to lead and motivate others with empathy, support and clarity of expectations will be key, as will the ability to advise and respond to elected members with confidence and certainty.
